The Soul

We all wondered about Oliver's use of the I,II,III,IV intermingled her poem about the Whale Bone. It came to me last night what it means to me ... I believe the soul has four parts: emotional, spiritual, intelletual, and physical. These are the areas where we grow and become who we are - in essence our soul. Perhaps, Oliver has her list of four parts and by putting the numbers into the poem, she found a way to honor the four sections of the soul???? Just a thought.

Recently read book

The following are the books that I have read in the last three weeks:

Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde
I know why this is a classic. It is a great treatise on the shadow parts of ourselves and an interesting look at who and what we would become if we gave in to all of the passions of that darker self. One of my therapists said that she once went to a "Shadow Party" with group of women. Ever person had to come dressed as their "shadow." Those parts of us that are hard to acknowledge but do lurk inside just the same. What would each of you come as.....a murderer, a spy, a sex fiend, an old bag lady, a bed, a petulant teenager, a jealous child? i know that just like our more angelic natures the shadow parts of ourselves are complicated and we would each be able to choose from a host of characters to depict that darker part of ourselves.

D is for Deadbeat (simple mystery)

a silly but fun thriller by Iris Johanson (I can't even think of the name of it!!!)

Firstlight by Sue Monk Kidd
If you want to read something light but inspiring I would highly recommend this book. she makes me want to be better and live more fully.

I am currently reading:

All Creatures Great and Small
I am loving this book. i will add more as I get further into it.

Breaking Dawn (the fourth book in the Twilight series)
I am finding this the most interesting book of the series but in my book it still only ranks as a fairly good teeny bopper book. Did any of you see the movie? Friends tell me that Eduard is totally hot and that the movie was great..... I don't know. I think that reading the book was more than enough but I hate to miss out on what people are talking about.

Tuesday, december 16

Hi all,

I am looking forward to our get-together next Tuesday. My house at 7:00. Please dress comfortably. I will be in sweats or my pajamas (which are frequently one and the same). Paula has already sent me the three poems she wants included in the book we are creating and she sent three poems of her own to include. :o) They are wonderful and you all are going to love them!!! After the event I will post all of the poems here as well.

As soon as you have chosen the poems you want included and written or decided which poem of your own to add to the group, please forward them to me. I can print them on the paper that I would like to use for our project.

Hurricane Ike

I hope that everyone survived the Hurricane and no significant damage. I am good although it was a scary night and morning. I got the blog up and running. It is a work in process. Once you all sign in, I will give everyone administrative rights so you can change anything you want. I am missing a book for 2008 - what is it? Anyone remember??

I did get to read a few books by headlamp.

I finished The Art of Racing in the Rain. I have the library copy if anyone wants it before I turn it in????

I LOVED Clyde Edgerton's The Floatplane Notebooks (a quirky Southern read).

I found on my bookshelf: Raising Hope. Is this the book that you were talking about Jennifer? I love it when things line up as they seem to. Synchronicity!!!

Celebrate today.
